We finished our first project this week! I am so glad I was finally able to understand touch designer better. Tuesday in class I started using Chatgpt to give me step by step instructions on how to complete me assignment, to no surprise this was unsuccessful. It was telling me to use code in the Arduino along with a set up in touch designer. This did not work well at all, and my professor didn't understand what I was doing. I restarted shortly after and cancelled my strategy of using chatgpt. 

My prompt for Chatgpt;

I need help doing the touch designer portion of my project today. I have created 5 different video montages with audio, using an ultra sound sensor I want to videos to change once the viewer steps 2 feet away from the sensor. I am a complete beginner with touch designer, so you can give me extremely detailed and thorough steps on how to do this.


I realize now that it is not practical to get this information through a bot. I was just really overwhelmed with the code and interface of touch designer. I asked for help after and it cleared so much stuff up that I was able to complete the set up. After presenting my project to the class, there was a couple issues.

The steps were to close together, so the videos would skip over an era.

The projector was behind me, so as I walked it would cover the projection and the class couldn't see the videos. 

Concerns about copyright for the videos were brought up. 

I knew that I was just going to be showing the class these videos and didn't think this was an issue. Considering I wasn't going to shoot all my own videos, especially since I wasn't alive in most of the eras, I didn't have much choice but finding footage online. 


Moving on, this weekend I am to read an article and then sketch new ideas for project 2! So exciting. In my brainstorming process, I want to focus on taking a new route for project 2, I want to expand my skills with touch designer, so trying something unrelated to project 1 is my goal.

Lilly Moore 1/25/2024 Rob Duarte  There is not too much to update with this week. Unfortunately class was canceled due to the snow. It worked out though because I had gotten the flu and was able to rest up. On Thursday morning we had a guest speaker show us some things we are hopefully able to use for our projects. I spent the week catching up on the first lab and coming up with more ideas for my first project. For lab 3 I was a bit lost so I am planning on asking questions this coming Tuesday in order to complete it. There was no video explanation in the lab, so I wasn't sure if I was completing it correctly.

Week 2

Lilly Moore 1/18/2024 Rob Duarte  Art 4925  This week was extremely eventful in this class. Tuesday we went over our ideas for the first project. This was so cool to see other peers ideas and goals. It gave me more ideas and opened up new possibilities for myself. Unfortunately I wasn't able to complete the first lab by Thursday. This made lab 2 seem extremely intimidating, but luckily my classmate was able to help me out. I am going to need to make up the first lab and update this blog entry tomorrow. After completing the second lab it didn't seem as scary. This is a whole new realm of technology I haven't experienced so I am excited to see what we can do with our kits. Also Rob had the great idea to get an old lunch box to hold the pieces in our kit.

As a class we all agreed on a participation rubric. Which included providing and receiving feedback, meaningful questions, problem solving in and out of class, being helpful to peers with ideas and technical problems, and last taking notes in class.
